Remote robot restarts could cut downtime costs by 90%

25 March, 2024

Kawasaki Robotics has partnered with Olis Robotics to allow robot users to restart production faster after shutdowns, cut troubleshooting and downtime costs by up to 90%, and access expert support quickly.

Seattle-based Olis, which specialises in remote monitoring and error recovery for industrial robots, has a technology that allows users to connect directly to their robots through an on-premises device via a secure connection, avoiding the risks and complexities associated with cloud-based systems. To ensure worker safety, the system obeys the robot controller’s safety restrictions.

Olis’ system alerts users when a robot stops unexpectedly, or if picking or placing a part fails. After a system failure, users can run a tool inspection routine and perform remote error recovery, allowing the robot to resume its cycle and get back to work. The technology will be available for any Kawasaki robot model from the second quarter of 2024.

"We’re seeing a growing demand for remote robot monitoring and recovery capabilities,” says Paul Marcovecchio, director of Kawasaki’s GI business. “Adding Olis to our industrial robots is a game-changer for the market.”
