Rockwell buys Danish modular switchboard specialist, Cubic

03 October, 2022

Rockwell Automation is buying Cubic, a Danish company that produces modular systems for constructing electrical panels. Rockwell says that combining Cubic’s flexible systems with its own intelligent devices and expertise will achieve faster times to market for intelligent motor controls, and help to generate smart data for users. The terms of the transaction have not been revealed.

Cubic, founded in 1973, is expected to report more than $75m in sales in the 2022 fiscal year to the end of September. Its partner model will allow Rockwell to expand its network of intelligent motor control partners in Asia, Europe and Latin America. It will also bring new customers and partners in the hybrid and process industries, as well as broadening Rockwell’s access to the renewable energy and data centre markets.

Cubic’s modular system can be used to create any type of electrical panel or switchboard using standard parts. Last year, it introduced a new system for switchboards up to 800A .

“Cubic’s innovative motor control solutions strengthen our portfolio of leading intelligent motor control technologies,” says Bob Buttermore, vice-president and general manager of Rockwell’s Power Control business. “We are pleased to welcome a talented team with specialised expertise in structural design, power systems, and global standards.”

Cubic, whose headquarters are in Bronderslev, will report to the Intelligent Devices operation in Rockwell’s Power Control business.

“Joining Rockwell will enable us to expand our relationships and accelerate our global growth,” says Cubic CEO, Jacob Moller Knudsen. “This is a perfect match that will allow us to offer our customers the best solutions going forward.”
