Raspberry Pi-based controller will have built-in touchscreen
An industrial computing specialist has announced a pair of controllers based on the low-cost Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (CM4) platform, which is aimed at industrial applications. OnLogic says that one of the controllers will have built-in touchscreen to provide status updates and system control.
“OnLogic has been designing computers for industrial applications for nearly two decades, so the CM4 was a natural fit for us to develop a new device around,” says product manager, Maxx Garrison. “The Raspberry Pi community already has a huge wealth of experience building Industry 4.0, Scada, and IoT solutions using Raspberry Pi. Our goal with the Factor 200 Series is to provide them with new tools to continue to innovate.”
The first device, due to start shipping in a few weeks, is called the Factor 201 and is a compact, passively cooled computing device intended for use as an industrial gateway, automation controller or edge computer. The DIN-rail or wall-mounting device can be powered via an Ethernet cable using PoE Power Delivery, allowing a single cable to provide both network access and power.
The Factor 201 offers up to 8GB onboard memory, up to 32GB of eMMC storage, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, USB 3.2 , 2.0 and USB-C ports, an HDMI port, an RS-232/422/485 serial port, and optional Wi-Fi or 4G LTE communications.
It will be followed later this year by the Factor 202 which adds a 2.7-inch capacitive touchscreen, 16 digital inputs, 16 digital outputs, four analogue inputs and two analogue outputs.
More than half of the Raspberry Pi computers produced are being used for industrial and commercial applications.
