Postponed machine vision conference goes online

15 April, 2020

Following the postponement of this year’s UKIVA Machine Vision Conference & Exhibition (MVC) until the spring of 2021, the UK Industrial Vision Association is launching a Web site where people registered for the 2020 event will have free access to presentations by speakers who had been due to speak at the event.

The Technology Presentation Hub. which goes live on 14 May 2020 – the same day as the original event – will offer 20–30 minute presentations on the following topics:

• deep learning and embedded vision;
• robotic vision;
• understanding vision technologies;
• systems and applications;
• 3D vision;
• camera technologies;
• optics and illumination; and
• vision innovation.

“Our speaker programme has always proved popular for those attending previous MVC events,” says UKIVA chairman, Allan Anderson. “Therefore, we wanted to provide an opportunity for exhibitors to continue to share their industry insight via a new online hub.

“Users will have the opportunity to view all, or cherry-pick the presentations most relevant to their specialism or areas of interest,” he adds. “The presentation material will also be available beyond the launch date too – to serve as a precursor to the next conference and exhibition in spring 2021.”

The full programme will be available to view online two weeks before the Hub goes live, but one presentation will be by Richard Love, EAMA marketing manager for Nvidia Jetson, who was going to be keynote speaker at the original event. His presentation will be entitled: Applying AI at the edge – a vision of the future.

Another presenter will be Kieran Edge, technical lead for machine vision at the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, who will be looking at advances in polarisation imaging and AI in inspection.

The programme is designed to be educational, and to appeal to visitors new to machine vision as well as experienced professionals. Registration is still open, allowing people who weren’t planning to attend the original event to sign up for the online version.
