Drives are optimised for synchronous reluctance motors

04 February, 2019

At the recent SPS IPC Drives show, Siemens launched a new range of converters aimed mainly at pump and fan applications. With a power range of 0.75–630kW, the G120X drives can be used with any type of motor, but are optimised for use with Siemens’ synchronous reluctance motors.

The drives have built-in application-specific functions including: flux reduction to match the load; a “keep running” function to reduce speed before a shutdown; and an “eco” function that minimises losses and optimises performance and output power. A built-in DC link reactor ensures stable running under any network conditions.

The compact drives operate with efficiencies of more than 98% and can handle motor cable lengths of up to 150m without additional output reactors. They can be commissioned using the Sinamics Access panel or IOP-2 operator panel, and linked to Siemens’ MindSphere cloud using a Sinamics Connect 300 module. This allows operating data from the converter, drivetrain and machine to be analysed and visualised via the Analyze MyDrives app.
