Austria's Keba buys Germany’s LTI and Heinz Fiege

03 January, 2019

The Austrian automation specialist Keba has acquired two German companies – the servodrives manufacturer LTI Motion and the spindles-maker Heinz Fiege – to widen its technology base and strengthen its position in industrial automation. Lahnau-based LTI and Röllbach-based Fiege were previously owned by the German technology group Körber. The purchase price has not been disclosed.

With the acquisition, the Keba Group will expand from 1,200 to more than 1,700 employees.

“The portfolios of Keba and LTI Motion complement each other perfectly,” says Keba CEO, Gerhard Luftensteiner. “Keba is a specialist in control and safety, and in operations in industrial environments; LTI Motion in the area of servodrive technology. The great advantage for our existing and future customers is that this expertise is now bundled. Customers will now receive complete solutions from a single source – from operations, control and safety technology, to drive technology – and all this appropriate for their respective industry.”

Luftensteiner adds that LTI and Fiege “are ideally positioned and have an experienced and highly competent workforce. Naturally, we will harness the synergies and joint strength, but at the same time we will emphasize continuity in the management of LTI Motion. It is important to us that LTI Motion’s customers continue to receive optimal technical and personal support, and ultimately benefit from the merger and the complete solution portfolio it creates.”

LTI, founded in 1971 as Lust Electronic-Systeme, has been part of Körber since 2013. With several locations in Europe and one in China, LTI specialises in servodrives for customers in demanding mechanical engineering industries. Heinz Fiege focuses on application-oriented spindle technologies.

Keba and LTI have already cooperated for several years in the field of automation solutions. Keba says that synergies will exist not only in their technologies and modular product systems, but also in sales.

“We are extremely pleased to have a new strategic owner with Keba who, like us, is dedicated to subjects like innovation and customer proximity,” comments LTI managing director, Hartmut Braun. “The merger is a great opportunity for both companies. The portfolios of Keba and LTI Motion complement each other perfectly.”
