HTI acquires ACE to combine their technologies

16 October, 2015

The US motor producer HTI Technology has acquired American Control Electronics (ACE) with the aim of combining its own AC and DC motors and powered mechanisms with ACE’s DC and AC drives and controls technologies, which include the Minarik Drives and American Control Electronics brands.

HTI, based in Nashville, Tennessee, says that the two companies’ “complementary” capabilities will allow it to combine motors and drives to produce application-engineered motion packages.

ACE will continue to operate from its LaVergne, Illinois, base with its president, Dan Schnabel, reporting to HTI CEO, John Paul. ACE CEO John Hegel will become a board member and shareholder of HTI and will help to formulate and guide a strategy for the combined business.

“We are very excited to join HTI’s mechanism and motor capabilities with American Control Electronics’ extensive motor drives and electronic controls offerings,” says Paul. “Both of these businesses have very strong technology, deep knowledge of our customers’ applications, and dedicated and knowledgeable teams. Together we will be even better positioned to combine these strengths into innovative packages that solve our customers’ needs.”

ACE CEO John Hegel sees the acquisition as “a very exciting opportunity for our people and our company. HTI's global reach will allow our products access to many new markets across the world. Their infusion of capital will also create opportunities for technology expansion. Our people are ready to support those opportunities and are excited to continue our growth trajectory.”

American Control Electronics' portfolio includes AC and DC motor controls

HTI Technology, established in 1989, custom-designs AC and DC motors, gear-motors and motorised assemblies that it manufactures in two factories that it owns in China.

American Control Electronics’ Minarik Drives brand dates back more than 60 years. As well as AC and DC controls and power products, ACE has developed several “green” products designed to control motors from battery or photovoltaic power.
