Machine vision pattern technology avoids trade-offs

08 June, 2015

Cognex has announced a feature-location technology that “reinvents” its PatMax pattern-matching tool to maximise speed and performance. The PatMax RedLine technology, available in the latest version of its In-Sight Explorer software is optimised to run on Cognex’s In-Sight 5705, 8405 and 5705C five-megapixel vision systems.

Because previous pattern-matching tools have imposed speed limitations, many applications have had to resort to lower-resolution cameras to keep pace with production lines. The new technology is said to operate at high speed on high-resolution vision systems, eliminating the tradeoff between speed and performance, and allowing users to increase resolution and gain accuracy without sacrificing speed.

It will allow them to inspect colours and to visualise small defects, even in a large fields-of-view. The vision systems are set up using the In-Sight Explorer software which includes a spreadsheet view for configuration and handling data. The systems also uses JavaScript to simplify complex and data-intensive vision tasks.

Cognex’s pattern-matching software can now keep pace with its high-resolution vision systems
