Circuit-breakers target the global market

10 February, 2014

Rockwell Automation has announced a family of MCCBs (moulded-case circuit breakers) and control-circuit and load-protection devices that will be available in more than 80 countries around the world. The products meet global certifications – including CE, CSA, CE and CCC – and many are IEC-compliant.

“Standardising on our new single circuit-breaker line gives customers the performance, global standards and certifications ratings, shorter lead times, and local support needed,” says Rockwell business manager, Mike Tarnowski. “They now can focus less on stocking and managing multiple circuit-breaker products, and more on competing more profitably.”

The Allen-Bradley Bulletin 140G MCCBs protect against overloads, short circuits, and ground-fault conditions. There are eight frame sizes spanning currents from 15–3,000A and voltages from 200–690V. All are available in three- and four-pole versions. The line offers increased short-circuit protection with coordination for motors from 0.1–630kW, fault currents up to 150kA, and operational voltages up to 690V.

The modular breakers allow quick clearing of high-level faults at high voltages. An interrupting capacity from 25–150kA allows one device to address multiple applications, thus reducing product stocking. There are a variety of operators available, while accessories include auxiliary and trip-unit alarm contacts, wiring terminations, and electronic trips from 20–3,000A.

The new Allen-Bradley MCBs (miniature circuit breakers) provide branch-circuit, supplemental and ground-leakage protection. The expanded portfolio is IP20 finger-safe, offers a wide array of accessories, and has a dual-cage terminal design. The Bulletin 1489-M and 1492-SPM breakers are rated for 0.5–63A, and are available globally. They offer reversible line and load connections. The 1489-M MCB offers branch-circuit protection with current limiting and is suitable for extreme conditions. The 1492-SPM MCB protects equipment, systems and cables by quick disconnection. The Bulletin 1492-RCDA MCB detects and interrupts earth leakage for equipment protection.

Easy-to-use selection and ordering tools help machine-builders to determine the circuit protection they need for an application. For example, the Global Short Circuit Current Ratings (SCCR) selection tool provides coordinated high-fault, branch-circuit solutions for motor starters, soft-starts and component drives. It generates letters of compliance for approved product combinations. Other selection guides and technical documents are available online.
