Digital PC-HMI link stretches to 100m

28 January, 2014

B&R has developed a new version of its Smart Display Link technology that allows HMIs to be located up to 100m away from their PCs. This is the third generation of the technology, which supported PC-HMI separations of up to 40m when it was launched in 2004.

With Smart Display Link 3, all communications are transferred over a standard Ethernet cable. As well as cutting cable costs, the thin cables and R-J45 connectors are ideal for tight spaces such as feed-through openings and support arm systems. Graphics data is transferred from the PC to the panel without having to be processed by extra PC hardware in the panel. The system can be used with any operating system.

The modular Smart Display Link 3 system will work with any of B&R’s Automation Panels, and is backwards-compatible with any of these panels currently in the field. B&R says the technology is aimed, in particular, at modular machines and systems.
