`World’s smallest` AS-i safety module fits in a cable duct

09 June, 2012

Pepperl+Fuchs claims to have developed the world’s smallest AS-i safety module with IP68/69k protection. The G10 module, which is less than 23mm tall, is small enough to be installed inside a cable duct so that all that can be seen from outside is the round cable outlet to the safe end device.

Any safety switch with dry contacts can be connected to the module. Whereas previously the flat AS-i cable had to be fed out of a cable duct, the new module’s one-piece housing enables cables to be fed through and to make contact via round, gold-plated pins, while being tightly sealed, using a single screw. Because the module is so small and lightweight, it does not need screw mounting. The picture (above) shows a typical installation with two of the modules installed in the cable duct at the bottom.

There are two versions, certified to PLe / SIL3 and offering integrated and external display functions with IP68/69k protection.
