Network aims to boost UK’s robotics capabilities

The work of robotics experts in the UK will be coordinated nationally for the first time following the launch of a network that will encourage academic and industry collaboration to accelerate the development and adoption of robotic and autonomous systems.


O’Carroll succeeds Bangs as MD of SMC in the UK

Kevin O’Carroll has been appointed managing director of SMC Pneumatics (UK), succeeding Steve Bangs who has stepped down after leading the company for 17 years. O’Carroll, who has been with SMC for 28 years, was previously assistant MD.


Drive systems tour hits the road in England and Scotland

Siemens is taking a custom-built exhibition truck on a three-week tour of the UK in July, starting in Cambridge on 2 July and finishing in Aberdeen 22 July. The Integrated Drive Systems (IDS) roadshow is designed to demonstrate how the company’s integrated drive systems can improve productivity, reliability and efficiency across many sectors.


Exico motors name is reborn after a 10-year absence

The Exico name is returning to the UK motors and inverters market after an absence of ten years. Jerry Hodek who ran the business previously, is back as managing and technical director of the reborn Exico, with Lucie Hodkova as sales director.

Chain-maker enters production in the UK

A Wolverhampton-based supplier of industrial chain has started to manufacture chain in the UK. Donghua, the UK arm of the Chinese Hangzhou Donghua Chain group, has invested in equipment to produce bespoke attachment chain, thus offering its customers more choice and shorter delivery times. It has also expanded its technical workshop.


Motor-maker’s move will enhance customer service

UK engineering alliance announces supply chain initiative

The Engineering and Machinery Alliance (Eama) – the umbrella group for 13 UK trade associations including Gambica, the MTA, Bara, the BFPA, BCAS, the PPMA and Ukiva – has announced plans for an industrial strategy for the machinery and allied components (MAC) sector. Eama believes its initiative will increase the ability of MAC companies, particularly SMEs, to benefit from the wide variety of schemes available to help them compete. 


Servomotor-maker doubles capacity in move to new premises

One of the UK’s most successful – but least-known – motor manufacturers, the servomotor specialist SEM, is moving to new purpose-built premises in Kent that will double its manufacturing capacity. The company is investing “tens of millions” of pounds in the move from its existing 5,000m2 premises in Orpington to the new 12,000m2 site at The Bridge Technology Park in Dartford.


Emerson appoints manager for UK drives and motors

Emerson Industrial Automation has appointed Gloria Stucchi to be general manager of its UK and Ireland drives and motors operation, which includes the Control Techniques and Leroy-Somer brands.


UK fluid power bodies form motion control alliance

The British Compressed Air Society (BCAS) and the British Fluid Power Association (BFPA), which incorporates the British Fluid Power Distributors Association (BFPDA), have agreed to form an alliance aimed at providing their members with a stronger, more consolidated voice.
