Are you systems safe from hackers?

The potential vulnerability of automation systems to hackers and other forms of sabotage is one of the vital topics to be discussed at next month`s Automation & Networking Conference, running alongside the Drives & Controls Show at the Birmingham NEC. The conference, sponsored by Bosch Rexroth, takes place on 17 May.

The powerful line-up of expert speakers includes Karl Williams from the National Infrastructure Security Co-ordination Centre, who will discuss the security implications of the shift to Internet-based networking.

Other speakers will cover topics including the design of Ethernet networks, implementing wireless communications in industrial environments, real-time Ethernet, and automation networks for the 21st century.

A second conference, sponsored by Pilz, will focus on developments in machine safety. The speakers lined up for this conference include three experts from the HSE, who will cover topics including the current status of machine safety standards, the use of digital communications in safety applications, and how functional safety affects power drive systems. A speaker from Sweden will look at new standards for the design and application of industrial robots, while another paper will consider safety culture in the workplace.

The conferences are being organised by the British Automation and Robotics Association. More information, and details on how to book, can be found on the Drives Show Web site.
