Wyko launches an e-commerce site built for speed

Wyko has launched a e-commerce site with the claim that it offers faster transactions than other sites. Orders for items such as motors, bearings, power transmission products, tools and seals, are processed automatically and despatched the next day using the local distribution fleet based at Wyko`s 120 branches.

"Most transactional sites are hampered when the buyer has to trawl through pages of products to find the item he wishes to purchase," says Wyko`s eCommerce director, Brian O`Leary. "When the Internet is busy, pages can take some time to download, and the process can become laborious and time consuming."

The Wyko store (www.wyko.co.uk) will allow regular on-line customers can find products quickly without having to do extensive searches and download lots of pages. "The Web store does it for them," says O`Leary, "effectively tearing out the electronic pages between entering the site and ordering products".

Items can be ordered using part numbers or by using a search facility. To speed re-orders, users can view their "shopping basket" from previous visits. Customers` main buyers can give authority to colleagues to purchase products to a given value. Payment is only taken once the products have been delivered.

Wyko aims to have its entire product range available on-line soon.
