JFL takes control at Mecelec

The JFL Manufacturing Group has bought Mecelec from its owners, Bob Holmes and John Strutt, and merged it with its own JFL Automation operation to form JFL Mecelec. The combined business will operate from Mecelec`s Gloucester base with Holmes and Strutt acting as consultants.

According to JFL`s managing director, Ray Golden, the merger of the businesses is logical. "For almost three decades, Mecelec has focused on the development and installation of automation equipment and has gained an enviable reputation, in particular, for its assembly and test station capabilities," he says. "Because this mirrors the growth and development within JFL Automation, there is a synergy between the two companies which is so close that the resultant service is set to provide customers with access to a level of understanding and commitment which, I believe, is unmatched in its sector".

The merged business hopes to take advantage of the trend for manufacturers to out-source integration services. "Our aim is to become the premier systems integrator in this industry," says Golden.

JFL Manufacturing, which marked its 50th anniversary last year, is owned by the Harris and Sheldon Group.
