Simple position sensor uses magnetrostrictive effect
The Italian company Gefran has developed a displacement sensor based on the magnetostrictive effect which, it says, is compact, accurate and easy-to-install with a long operating life. Pricing is said to be similar to simpler technologies.
The IP65-protected ONP1‐A devices (below) use a newly-designed sensor element to read magnetic cursors. The contactless operating principle is said to ensure high measurement accuracies and a long, maintenance-free operating life.
The sensor is available for strokes from 50–1,500mm. It provides an “infinite” resolution and a linearity of 0.04% of full-scale. Different versions offer voltage or current outputs.
