The motor and gearbox manufacturer Parvalux has opened its first premises for 50 years outside of its Bournemouth base by acquiring its Midlands distributor, Parks GB, for an undisclosed sum. The business has moved to a new facility in central Birmingham.

Parks GB had been Parvalux’s fastest-growing distributor since its inception in 2007. Its previous owner, Pardeep Rajput, has been appointed service operations director of the new facility.

“With both operations doing so well, it seemed logical for us to join forces,” explains Parvalux managing director, Justin Levine (above). “We put ourselves under a lot of pressure to meet demand soon after our acquisition of EMD and that highlighted a number of issues we knew we had to solve at the earliest opportunity.”

The acquisition is intended primarily to take pressure off Parvalux’s Bournemouth operations, but it will also deliver benefits for customers such as improved response times, local stockholding, and acting as the company’s UK repair and service centre.

While the UK sub-1kW motors market has not escaped the effects of the global financial problems, the closure of Crompton Electric Motors in Doncaster, and Parvalux’s 2008 acquisition of EMD Drive Systems, have helped it to weather the storm. The company now claims to have about 40% of the UK market, and says it has never been busier.
