Hydraulic fluid cuts energy consumption by up to 8%
Shell Lubricants has developed a hydraulic oil which, it claims, can cut energy consumption in hydraulic machinery by up to 8%. The Tellus EE fluid contains a patented additive and has undergone extensive tests and field trials which have demonstrated its ability to help improve energy efficiency.
The low-friction fluid’s viscosity has been formulated to help hydraulic systems transmit power as efficiently as possible. If a fluid is too thick, extra energy is required to move parts; if it is too thin, parts can touch, leading to excessive wear and component replacement and downtime costs. In addition, the fluid’s density has been optimised to transmit rather than absorb power.
Shell says that improvements in efficiency will vary depending on the application, the operating conditions, the condition of the equipment and the maintenance practices being used.
