Ethernet sales are growing faster than 20%

04 December, 2007

Global shipments of industrial Ethernet nodes will grow at a CAGR (compund annual growth rate) of 21.7% over the coming five years, according to a new study from IMS Research.

"Industrial Ethernet appears to be following the same path trodden by fieldbus protocols, with a growing number of variations on the theme," says John Morse, a senior market analyst with IMS. "Many of the variants will find their niche in the market, however it will come as no surprise that the research found that Profinet is forecast ultimately to dominate the EMEA region and Ethernet/IP will enjoy the lion’s share in the Americas".

This is due to the relative strength of Siemens in EMEA and Rockwell Automation in the Americas. In Asia, the split will be more even.
