Wireless comms system `guarantees connections`
Pilz has developed a wireless communication technology that uses an innovative antenna system, said to guarantee constant, high-quality wireless connections under all operating conditions. The InduraNet p system, which provides a more flexible alternative to cable-based connections, is designed to co-exist with other wireless systems.
The wireless technology is intended to be used with Pilz’s PSSuniversal decentralised control platform, allowing up to 64 remote I/O modules to be operated remotely, via base stations that can each communicate with up to four remote stations. Users need not be aware that the connections are wireless – their view of the process remains the same.
A "listen before talk" access mechanism ensures that a radio channel is not being used by other wireless services before communications take place. An "intelligent frequency management system" prevents the InduraNet p system from interfering with other industrial wireless networks.
Pilz sees its wireless system as "the first step towards an industry-compatible wireless technology". The company is already working on extensions, including the integration of safe devices and sensors.
