The motor and drives manufacturer ASI Robicon has assured its customers and suppliers that its business is continuing to operate as normal despite its parent, High Voltage Engineering (HVE), filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the US.

HVE has suffered as a result the poor performance of another of its subsidiaries, Advanced Surface Analysis, which has been hit by the downturn in the semiconductor and laboratory instruments markets. The Chapter 11 filing is designed to allow HVE to raise extra funding while reducing its overall debt.

HVE hopes to emerge from bankruptcy protection within a few months. ASI Robicon will become the main business in the restructured HVE, representing almost 90% of its value.

ASI Robicon, which produces AC and DC drives and motors, especially for medium-voltage, high-power applications, has a UK operation in High Wycombe.
