KSB`s motors will double output of Franklin`s Italian plant
Published:  01 October, 2000

Franklin Electric, which claims the be the world`s largest manufacturer of submersible motors, has acquired the submersible motor business of the German pump-maker KSB Aktiengesellschaft. Franklin plans to absorb KSB`s motor operation, presently based in Frankenthal, Germany, into its existing motor plant in Berzo Demo, Italy. The transfer, expected to take six months, will more than double the output of the Italian plant.

KSB makes motors in six-, eight- and ten-inch diameters while Franklin`s existing range spans four- to eight-inch models. William Lawson, Franklin`s chief executive, sees the acquisition as "a strategically important step" for his European operation. It substantially enhances Franklin`s market position in Europe and, according to Lawson, "completes the positioning of Franklin Electric as the leading global manufacturer of large submersible motors".

With the addition of the KSB lines, the Berzo Demo operation "will not only gain new motor designs and manufacturing processes," says Lawson, but it will also "achieve the scale required for substantial new investment in product engineering and manufacturing".
