Award will honour energy-saving applications

Drives & Controls has joined forces with ABB to launch a monthly competition to encourage energy-saving automation applications in the UK. Each month, an award will be presented for an application which demonstrates how an installation or plant has been made more energy-efficient by applying appropriate automation equipment and/or by installing high-efficiency motors or drives.

The competition is open to end-users, systems integrators, consultants or equipment suppliers who have been involved in the installation. Simply submit a description of the project (which must be located in the UK) providing, if possible, figures for the amount of energy being saved, and showing how this has been achieved.

Entries will be judged on a combination of criteria including: the innovative application of energy-saving technologies; evidence of the reduction in energy consumed; and other benefits achieved by the installation. Projects that achieve the biggest savings will not necessarily win the award - the way the technology has been applied is as important as the size of the savings.

Project descriptions (up to a maximum length of 600 words) should be sent to ABB Energy Saving Award, Drives & Controls, Cape House, 60A Priory Road, Tonbridge, Kent TN9 2BL, or by email to tony@drives.co.uk.

The first winner will be announced in the March issue of Drives & Controls.
