    STFC’s ISIS facility is a leading centre for research in the physical and life sciences. The facility performs cutting edge research into the structure and properties of materials at an atomic and molecular level.

    About The Role

    The ISIS Electronic User Support Group provides beam line scientists and users of the 34 neutron and muon instruments with the development and support of control and instrumentation systems. Motion control systems are a fundamental part of the group’s output, enabling scientific machines to be at the cutting edge of applied science.

    As the group’s motion applications engineer you will be part of a dynamic team responsible for developing technical solutions, testing and commissioning motion control systems, managing the handover of new systems to operations and providing operational support. As a key member of the team you must have good administrative and communication skills, have sound technical knowledge and judgment and a drive for problem solving and improving the reliability of systems critical to ISIS operations.

    About You

    You will hold a HNC or higher qualification in an electrical discipline.

    You will have significant experience with motion control systems or experience in an engineering support role. You will have experience in working in some of the following phases of an engineering project; design, test, installation and commissioning.

    It would be desirable to have experience in programming embedded systems, or working with stepper servo or piezo motors.

    You will have previous experience using Microsoft office.
