Software generates ST programs for Omron PLCs
The mathematical computing specialist MathWorks has announced that its Simulink PLC Coder software can now be used to generate IEC 61131-3 Structured Text programs for Omron PLCs, allowing automation engineers to adopt model-based designs for equipment controlled by these PLCs, as well as for Omron’s Sysmac Studio software.
The Simulink software can generate code for closed-loop and supervisory control applications. Automatic code generation helps to eliminate errors associated with traditional hand-coding and cuts development and validation time.
Takumi Tohyama, MathWorks Japan’s marketing manager for industrial automation and machinery, says that the development will allow engineers to develop advanced control algorithms that increase accuracy and optimise machine performance.
Yasutugu Namura, manager of a business development department in Omron’s controls division, adds that it will have advantages for Omron customers that have adopted model-based design. “Engineers can now use Simulink PLC Coder to generate code from Simulink models, speeding up the design process and enhancing performance on machines controlled by Omron PLCs,” he says.
