‘Five-star’ servo has the lowest positioning error
On its stand at the Hannover Fair, Omron was previewing what it calls "the first five-star servo system". It claims that a new "tuning-less" algorithm makes the Sigma-5 servo drive the simplest to commission and one of the quickest to position, with the lowest positioning error on the market.
The compact drive (shown below) has built-in two-channel safe-stop functions to Category 3 of EN 954-1, avoiding the need for external contactors. Safe-speed operation is an option.
Omron was demonstrating how a vibration analysis function built into the Sigma-5 can detect any resonances in the driven load rapidly, and suppress them. (On its nearby stand, Mitsubishi had a similar demonstration showing its MR-J3A servo drive damping down an oscillating load automatically.)
The Sigma-5 servo operates at frequencies of up to 1.6kHz and will be available initially in ratings from 50W–5kW.
